Discover Your Path to Liberation with YASÉ
You arrived here in divine timing because you believe Black and Queer youth deserve liberation in many forms. You arrived in divine timing because you are now ready to gain the necessary tools to experience more enlightened thoughts, wellness, and joy. Allow Tammaka to take you on a journey to find exactly where consent and culture coexist. YASÉ offers more brave spaces for youth and the adults who support them by providing sexual health services that focus on self-love via radical pleasure, healing justice, & collective learning. I see you Fam…

YASÉ is the vibrant stage where Black, Queer, and Trans voices are the headliners, and where we dance with pleasure and healing as our instruments of change.
The great Assata Shakur once said, “Black revolutionaries do not drop from the moon. We are created by our conditions. Shaped by our oppression.”
For Tammaka Staley, it was unsettling to constantly be told that her identity was molded by the systemic and racial bondages that denied freedoms we were owed since conception. Not wanting to give said systems power over her liberation, she became committed to the defiance of beliefs and standards that deemed our very being as taboo or unacceptable. Sex, and every facet of it, is one arena Tammaka does not mind dancing (or spittin poetry) in. Challenging the culture of shame, homophobia, and anti-Blackness, she created YASÉ to be a revolutionary pioneer for youth and adults seeking to learn more about their sexual identity, how to holistically heal sexual traumas, and promote body positivity and sexual expression. YASÉ centers Black, Queer and Trans bodies in discussions around decolonoizing sex and sexuality. We uplift sex as a tool for pleasure and as a tool for healing racial and gender disparities by focusing on ROOT causes of sexual trauma and discrimination, not just their symptoms. We also use art like spoken word to educate teens and broader communities about various social structures that impact how we view identity. This is what makes Tammaka’s approach with YASÉ so unique in the industry we thrive in. The notorious condom dealer and Sexfirmation Goddess is determined to disrupt the colonized barriers to sexual health and create a consent culture in the United States, one sexfirmation at a time.

MEET THE FACE BEHIND YASÉ
Nine year old me would be proud to know that sneaking into my daddy’s shoe closet to get and watch a porn tape was not done in vain.
This move, though scary and super risky, is what I believe to be the catalyst for my inquiry into sex and sexuality. It was through watching pornography I discovered what masturbation was and begin to indulge in that myself at the age of nine. I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina in a Black household where Christian teachings told me masturbation or any type of sex outside of marriage to a man was a sin. However, I quickly discovered that did not resonate with me. Masturbation was very healing for me, yet also left me with tons of questions and confusion that would go unanswered until my 9th grade year of high school when I met a Peer Counselor named India White while shadowing her at a youth center providing resources for teen moms. This was a pivotal moment in my life because Ms. India exposed me to different backgrounds from other Black girls my age, and answered a lot of questions I had lingering in the balance up until I met her. Her compassion and directness towards the girls in her peer group made me want to be a source of help and light for other students one day. This sparked my interest in being a sex educator and having candid conversations with youth about reproductive rights, sex, systems, identity politics, etc. I knew from then I would grow up to be someone else’s Ms. India and I did just that. Years passed of me talking to my friends and community members about sexual health, passing out condoms, and even landing my first job as a sex educator at Sowing Seeds into the Midlands in my hometown.
